Bjarne E. Pettersen returns as CEO of Sterner – strengthening the focus on clean-water technology

Sterner Group AS announces that founder and former CEO Bjarne E. Pettersen has returned as Chief Executive Officer, effective December 2025. Pettersen assumes the role at a time marked by stabilisation, a clearer strategic focus, and targeted restructuring.

As part of the change, Pettersen, through his company, has repurchased the majority of shares in Sterner Group AS from Erich Erber. At the same time, the company’s equity position has been strengthened through a share issue, and a new management team with strong professional and operational experience has been established.

Following significant losses in 2023 and a high cost base, Sterner carried out a comprehensive turnaround during 2025. This period was used to streamline operations, strengthen internal structures, and refocus the business on its core areas.

A clear return to core operations

Sterner is now fully refocusing on its roots as a Norwegian provider of clean-water technology, with a primary emphasis on aquaculture and municipal drinking water. The strategy is built on proven technologies, local delivery, and high operational reliability.

With Pettersen back as CEO, this direction is reinforced. His mandate is to strengthen Sterner’s Norwegian base, rebuild market confidence, and deliver solutions grounded in the company’s long-standing experience in water treatment.

Pettersen co-founded Sterner in 1990 and has previously led the company through several phases of growth. He brings continuity, technical insight, and in-depth knowledge of the business.

«I look forward to building on the solid work that has been done. Sterner has sharpened its focus and strengthened its foundations. Now we will continue delivering what the company has always been known for: clean-water technology that works», says Pettersen.

Forward priorities

Going forward, Sterner will prioritise:
  • Clean-water technology for aquaculture, drinking water, and wastewater
  • Local presence, Norwegian expertise, and long-term customer partnerships
  • Technical quality, operational reliability, and sustainable solutions
  • Continued stabilisation and a gradual return to profitability

Management and the board acknowledge that challenges remain, but the direction is clear. With strengthened ownership and a clear strategy, Sterner is entering its next phase with renewed focus and determination.
