Sterner Upgrades Water Treatment at Salmon Evolution’s Smolt Facility
- 23. mai 2025

Sterner has signed a contract with Salmon Evolution to deliver technology and process equipment for a key upgrade at the company’s smolt facility at Dale in Volda Municipality. The aim is to improve water quality and create a more stable and sustainable aquatic environment for the smolt.
The project involves converting one of the facility’s tanks from a traditional flow-through system to a hybrid solution – a combination that enables better control of water quality and supports improved fish welfare.
«This is an important upgrade to further enhance the environmental conditions in the tank. We will install CO₂ degassers, drum filters, and our proprietary oxygenation system, Oxytech 8000. Together, these components will contribute to a cleaner and more stable water environment for the fish», says Martin Hagenlund, Project Manager at Sterner.

The tank to be upgraded has a diameter of 18 meters. Bluegreen has been engaged as subcontractor, responsible for piping, installation, and equipment adaptation. The work is set to begin in May, with installation planned for June.
«At this stage, the upgrade applies to a single tank, but if the results show the desired improvements in water quality and operational performance, it may be relevant to upgrade additional tanks at the facility», Hagenlund adds.
Salmon Evolution is a pioneer in land-based aquaculture and is known for its strong focus on fish welfare and sustainability. This upgrade is part of the company’s continuous efforts to optimize production conditions.
Sterner is proud to have been selected as the main supplier for this project and looks forward to contributing with technology and expertise that support more sustainable and efficient smolt production.
